Painted in 1996, the original 10”x14” watercolour is almost abstract in nature. John has captured a moment in the late afternoon when cliff and rocks become just dark shapes in the landscape and the colours in the sky and sea and rockpool are subdued. The composition, carefully balanced between the top and bottom halves creates a sense of monumental serenity.
